Profile of NANGO
National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO) is a co-ordinating body for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO'S) in
Zimbabwe. It was founded in 1962 as a welfare organisation under the name of Southern Rhodesia Council of Social Services. Then it was renamed Voluntary Organisation in Community Enterprise (VOICE). Ten years after independence, member organisations seriously renewed the organisation resulting in major changes including the change of the name again to National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO). Nango has become the main body facilitating co-operation and collaboration between and among NGO'S by providing services to them.

To facilitate collaboration and co-operation among, between and with NGO'S so that :
1. NGO'S share information about their activities.
2. NGO'S plan strategically and where possible jointly.
3. NGO'S beneficiaries receive maximum service.

To promote, co-ordinate and organise participation and co-operation among NGO'S in:
* Collaborative planning and action
* Sharing activities and strategies
* Information exchange
* Research and evaluation
* Training and technical assistance

* This NANGO effort seeks to strengthen, mobilise and enhance the capacity of NGO personnel and improve their organisational effectiveness.

* This area of concern involves two main tasks ,that is to be a platform for exchange on research activities among NGO'S and to carry out research with, on behalf of and for NGO'S.

* This includes gathering, storing , exchanging and disseminating of information and literature such as data from the resource centre, newsletter and NGO'S directory.

* NANGO aims at encouraging its membership to generate its own funds and to undertake some investment programmes for its future autonomy. However, NANGO receives its main institutional support from donor agencies, government of
Zimbabwe, local companies and individuals.
